From Budapest came sad news. Football has lost a great Hungarian striker Ferenc Puskas, who was the International Federation of Football History and Statistics called the fourth in the list of the greatest players of the twentieth century. If it were not for politics and a number of other unfortunate circumstances, this person could well push back the list of the best Pele.

Death of 79-year old Puskas was an event expected, but no less serious for the whole football world, and for the whole of Hungary. In the past six years, the legendary striker was suffering from Alzheimer's disease. If we talk about Hungary's second half of the twentieth century, Puskás was perhaps the main man who represents and its victories and its tragedy - not only on the football field. Already at the age of 16 he started playing in club Kispest ", and at 18 made his debut in the national team. He spoke at the left-welterweight striker, but his left-foot strike from the first steps in football became known as "deadly". As a result of the first half of 1950. became the "Hungarian" era in football.

In 1952, the Olympic Games in Helsinki Hungarians crushed all his rivals and won the gold. In the same year the team arrived in England, where he plunged the world into shock: the inventors of football lost to the Hungarians with a score of 3:6, and in the return match in Budapest, the British were simply destroyed - 7:1. The main creator of the two victories was Puskás, and the whole team was nicknamed the "Hungarian magicians.

Chance to redeem have appeared 4 years later, but here politics intervened. In 1956 the Hungarian anti-communist uprising broke out, and Puskás, along with most of his teammates supported him. After its suppression, he could not stay in the country and was among the 200,000 Hungarians who left her. Due to the flight of most of its players on the West team, which was to be the main rival of Brazil at the World Championships in 1958, collapsed. The man who could easily outshine most Pele, but this was prevented by the policy and 33-year stay in a foreign land.
