By bad way: in Moldavia were cases of discrimination of the Russian language

November 30 in Chisinau, representatives of various public organizations, including the movement Nashi , held a round table on the continued functioning of the Russian language in Moldova.

The need for such a discussion was caused numerous cases of non-linguistic legislation by public authorities, courts, police, rectors of higher educational institutions. The tendency to restrict the practice of the Russian language in the official sphere. The level of speech in the media, the quality of teaching of Russian in schools to university, the state of educational-methodical base is waning. In addition, as shown by the data of a sociological survey, the Russian language remains the most popular part of the local population.

Roundtable participants concluded the following. More work is needed to improve the language legislation in order to make Russian a second state language in Moldova. Requires increased oversight by the executive branch for compliance with statutory provisions relating to the functioning of languages, and above all in education. Also help to improve the active use of the resource of the Moldovan-Russian and Russian-Moldovan bilingualism, consolidation of society and expansion of social prospects for Moldovan citizens at home and abroad. In addition, the enhancement of capacity pre-university educational institutions with the Russian language and to improve teaching and methodological basis and the training of Russian language teachers for secondary and higher education establishments.

In its resolution the participants of the Round Table "suggested the establishment of a monitoring commission composed of representatives of civil society in the country with the authority to monitor compliance with legislation and the activities of the executive authorities in the functioning of the Russian language in the country. Part 8 of Article 7 of the draft Education Code, which is currently under discussion in the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, contrary to a number of the current legislation, according to delegates of the Round Table. Proposed in the Code of the bill restricts the right to receive medical, military, legal education, as well as public order and security in Russian and is in contradiction with the provisions of the Concept of State National Policy of the Republic of Moldova.

The round table "appeal to the leadership of the Ministry of Education and Youth of Moldova with a request to scrutinize the reality of teaching in Russian universities in Moldova and to counter the rate at reducing the number of groups in reducing groups with Russian language.
