Japanese balloonist, try to beat the world record, missing

Famous Japanese extremal and traveler Michio Kanda, who tried to break his own world record balloon flight, vanished in an attempt to fly from Japan to the United States.

58-year-old balloonist was flying from the Japanese city of Tochigi in the U.S. - in the city of Portland, Oregon. He hoped to beat the record of the range and duration of flight in a balloon, filled with ordinary hot air.

Now the world distance record of such a flight is 7,671 miles. The pilot also wanted to break the record for flight duration, which he established in 1997. And flew from Alberta in Canada to Montana in the U.S. for 50 hours 38 minutes. The flight from Tochigi to Portland length of 9 km of would take 60 hours.

A few days ago, after the Japanese, while over the North Pacific Ocean, lost contact with his support group, United States Coast Guard began its search. The operation involved a boat and two planes, but the conduct of searches hampered by bad weather, reported BBC.
