In Germany, a giant knitted football scarf

On the eve of the World Cup in the city of Unna in western Germany is the world's longest football scarf length of 12,5 km. Now the giant woolen scarf decorated with the city center.

In making the scarf was attended by over a thousand people, including those from France and Hungary. Scarf reflects the national colors of all 32 teams taking part in the finals of the World Cup. Only wool for knitting products had cost 22 500 euros.

Unna hopes to soon get into the Guinness Book of Records. In addition, weavers, many of them elderly women, are going after the championship scarf cut into pieces and sell it at a price of 10 euros per square meter. The proceeds will be sent to children's sports associations in Germany.

The idea of making a scarf belonged to 60-year-old Elfriede Blees. However, when in 2005 she took this step, it was assumed that the length of the finished product will be 20 kilometers, to be able to "connect" the city of Unna in nearby Dortmund, where the championship matches will take place, reports BBC.
