WHO recommends that men be circumcised

March 28 2007

Doctors claim that circumcision reduces the risk of 60 percent of contracting AIDS from heterosexual men. UN Programme on AIDS (UNAIDS) and World Health Organization (WHO) has officially endorsed the findings of scientists and their recommendation to do an operation to reduce the risk of disease.

Meanwhile, UN experts and the WHO found it necessary to clarify that men should understand - totally protected against AIDS, circumcision does not make one. "It should be clearly explained - male circumcision does not provide absolute protection against AIDS", - said the representative of UNAIDS Catherine Hankins.

According to UNAIDS, the world immunodeficiency virus infected about 40 million people, of whom 25 million live in sub-Saharan Africa, according to Rosbalt.
