Egg lovers face premature death

April 11 2008

Scientists warn that eating one egg a day can lead to premature death. Especially for middle-aged men. Specialists have found that seven or more eggs a week may increase mortality by 23%. The researchers also linked the consumption of eggs with the risk of early death among men with diabetes, says The Daily Mail. In men, diabetes, eating eggs may provoke a heart attack or stroke.

Sometimes conflicting studies on the usefulness and harm of the inclusion of eggs in the diet are associated with a high content of cholesterol - about 220 milligrams in each yolk. Thus the use of eggs leads to increased blood cholesterol levels and risk of heart disease.

Many experts believe that the risk is exaggerated, because the body most people could produce cholesterol naturally. Nevertheless, researchers Luc Juice and J. Michael Gaziano, analyzed the 20-year study, which was attended by 21 000 327 men, came to the conclusion that the number of eggs in the diet of the stronger sex need to be reduced.

Scientists warn that their findings may not relate to the general population, because the harm from the use of eggs also depends on how they were cooked. In addition, study participants eating the most eggs were older, tend to be overweight, drinking alcohol, smoking, and do not engage in sports.
