American and British doctors have identified another factor that greatly increases the risk of serious medical medical errors that threaten even the death of the patient.

Such errors are associated with ambiguous abbreviations of words in the medical records that can be misinterpreted and cause different effects on weight: from an incorrect diagnosis - before setting a wrong injection and as a consequence, a deadly allergic reaction.

In the study, researchers analyzed nearly 30,000 cases of medical errors and found that the direct or indirect cause of 5% of the fatalities were misunderstood abbreviations. The most common mistake was the wrong dosage of medication.

Pediatricians Hospital in Birmingham, which has been demonstrated abbreviations, correctly interpreted from 56 to 94% of them, while doctors from other specialties - only 31 to 63%. The experts urged doctors to use their records reductions that have only one meaning - to reduce risk, says Cnews.
