All-Russian contest "Seven Wonders of Russia" can beat Mount Elbrus

The highest peak in Europe - Mount Elbrus, located on the border of Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia, scored the highest number of votes in the second round of the All-Russian contest "Seven Wonders of Russia". Now identified 14 finalists. Elbrus voted for nearly 250,000 of the more than 3.7 million people. Other finalists in the competition were the castle "Vovnushki in Ingushetia, a statue of Motherland in Volgograd, Tobolsk Kremlin, natural reserve" poles "in the Krasnoyarsk region, Lake Baikal, Kungurskaya ice cave of the Volga region, Novosibirsk zoo, Cyril Belozersky monastery in the town of Kirillov , St. Basil Cathedral in Moscow, Nizhny Novgorod Kremlin, a natural monument "Pillars of weathering in the North-West Federal District, Valley of Geysers in Kamchatka and Peterhof in St. Petersburg. During the first round of the competition, held from October 1, 2007 to February 1, 2008, through online voting were determined 49 finalists - seven from each federal district. The second round was conducted with the help of internet voting and the sms-messages from February 1 to April 29, 2008 and identified 14 finalists, regardless of their affiliation to the federal districts. The final vote will take place from May 1 to June 10, the seven winners will be announced on the Day of Russia - June 12, during a celebratory concert on Red Square.
