Lithuania has banned smoking on the street

Administration of Kaunas has prepared a proposal to ban smoking on three main streets of the city, as well as in some public gardens and parks, playgrounds and gathering places of young people. It is an avenue of liberty, the streets of Vilnius and Daukantas, Tranquility Park and gardens near the War Museum and the building of the Presidency.

In 2006, Lithuania adopted amendments to the law on tobacco control, with this year's smoking only in catering establishments, and now the administration has decided to tighten the rules for Kaunas. Until 2000, the central artery of the city - the pedestrian mall of Liberty - a few years was in the zone without smoking. The ban was lifted when the mayor for a short time became Vytautas Shushtauskas.

According to deputy health department of local government Algimantas Kazhemekaytisa, a survey conducted in 2005 shows that such measures are being shared by 68% of city residents. The whole question is which way to realize these intentions - prohibitive, that is backed by fines, or educational. Reports Turist.ru.
