The Senate of the Romanian Parliament passed a bill according to which news programs on television and radio shall contain not less than 50% of positive news.

With this initiative previously made by one member of the lower house of parliament and a senator, arguing that the news in the country contain too much violence, aggression and the crimes that plunges viewers into a depressive state. Now the bill is aimed at the assertion of President Traian Basescu. His signature in the document would mean the entry into force.

Reaction to the decision of the Senate provoked a sharp reaction in the media. Romanian newspapers on Thursday came out with the headlines "unanimously stupidity in the Senate," "The positive news for the mental health of people," "The senators write television program," and others. The Romanian Association of Journalists appealed to the president not to sign such a law, because "only under authoritarian regimes required by law to praise aspects of public life" - RIA Novosti.
