In New York returned the first beaver

For the first time in more than 200 years in New York was seen beaver. Previously, hunting for this animal resulted in the almost complete disappearance.

Scientists from the Wildlife Conservation Society photographed a few days ago, the North American beaver in the Bronx River, which flows through the zoo.

John Calveley, a representative of the Wildlife Conservation Society, which manages the Bronx Zoo, said that if wild animals were given a chance, they go back.

The fact is that in the 70-ies of the Bronx River became a place of urban landfills, but residents and authorities of New York began work on cleaning rivers. Jose Serrano, the Bronx representative in the U.S. Senate, received for this project 14,6 millionovdollarov from the federal budget.

Calveley said that the beaver is named in honor of Senator Jose, says New-York Times.
