In Belarus, the bears do not want to sleep

In Belarus, brown bears began to occur in hibernation later than usual, informs BelTA referring to a leading researcher of the Polesie State Radiation Ecological Reserve Tatiana Deryabin.

According to her, warm winter and lack of snow in some regions of the country allow bears to obtain the necessary amount of feed. Therefore, animals and do not hibernate in time. For example, in the Polesie State Radiation Ecological Reserve found fresh tracks of a bear recently.

The interviewee noted that the danger of these bears do not usually represent. Animals are provided with food and do not show aggression. In contrast to the frosty, a warm winter, they spend far less energy that is beneficial to their body.

Tatiana Deryabina added that in recent years, the number of bears that are found in the Polesie State Radiation Ecological Reserve, has increased markedly. So, if in 1992 there was registered only one bear, the year 2007 - 5. Scientists are exploring the features and habitat of these animals, collect data that will help keep their population.

Brown bear - one of the largest predators. Occurs in mixed and coniferous forests, alternating with meadows, river valleys and mossy swamps. Feeds on stems, rhizomes of grasses, shoots of trees, berries and nuts. The brown bear is in the Red Book of Belarus and is under protection. Today in the republic there are about 80 individuals of this species.
