Whole continent chooses its own parliament

Today in Australia are held parliamentary elections. Polling stations opened at 8:00 am local time (midnight GMT): the first eastern states voted in the "green continent" - New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania, the latter areas will close at 18:00 - in the west.

During the voting 13.5 million Australians will decide: whether there will be a government supporter of George W. Bush, the conservative John Howard or his place will be the leader of the opposition Labor Party, Kevin Rudd.

It is worth recalling that Howard is already 11 years has served as prime minister. But over the past year, numerous public opinion polls predicted a victory Rudd.

However, just before the elections themselves were published new data showing that the gap between the candidates down to four percent: 52 percent of voters willing to vote for the Labor Party, 48 - for the Conservatives. On it informs AFP.
