Medics managed to neutralize the Ebola virus by removing a single gene. U.S. scientists allowed to waive the requirements of increased security in the studies of the virus. Now it can be studied under normal laboratory conditions.
Steering research Yoshihiro Kavaoka and his colleagues at the University of Wisconsin-Madison delete the gene of the Ebola virus VP 30 by stopping its reproduction in normal cells. This gene controls the production of proteins necessary for viral replication.
Next, the scientists modified the cells from monkey kidneys, causing them to produce a protein necessary for the reproduction of the virus. Thus, specialists were able to study virus replication in a secure environment. He is bred only in monkey cells containing the protein he needs without being able to play in normal cells.
