Sakhalin move to vouchers for bread

The authorities of Sakhalin region are considering the introduction of coupons for bread for socially unprotected population. Sakhalin Governor Alexander Khoroshavin acknowledged that it would be almost inevitable if the regional administration will not find other ways to support local producers of bread.

According to the governor, in 2007, cereal prices in shops have risen by a third the price of bread has reached 32 rubles. Since early 2008, prices for bread will continue, and after 1 May will end a moratorium on price increases will almost certainly see a sharp jump in the cost of virtually all food products. In this regard, Khoroshavin said that he is left with no choice but to "think about the introduction of vouchers for bread for the poor."

Innovative proposal Sakhalin governor did not call. Last July, the St. Petersburg authorities, concerned about the forthcoming rise in price of bread, proving the feasibility of such a step. "In St. Petersburg, perhaps the introduction of the cards. Or, perhaps, food stamps," - said then the first deputy chairman of the Municipal Committee for Economic Development, Industrial Policy and Trade Yury Rakov.

Experts estimate a very negative outcome of the moratorium on raising prices for socially important food products, signed in late September last year between the government and the largest network marketing companies. May 1 under a freeze will not be placed upon the bar. Already, the regions of their own accord agreed with local producers on a moratorium on price increases for bread and other socially important food products. The validity of these agreements in some cases, beyond 2008, reports RIA PrimaMedia.
