Aged lawyer kept the stolen paintings by Cezanne and thunder in jail

74-year-old lawyer from Massachusetts, Robert Mardirosyan was sentenced to seven years in prison for having kept in his stolen in 1978, paintings by Paul Cezanne. Thief was also one of the clients attorney.

According to investigators, the paintings of Cezanne were stolen from the house of one Michael Bekuina in Stockbridge, and then transferred to a lawyer. Mardirosyan hoard of art until 1988, and then put them in one of the Swiss banks in order to subsequently sell the work at auction in London.

In 1999 Mardirosyan Bekuinu agreed to return one of the paintings by Cezanne - Still Life "Pitcher and Fruits" - in exchange for recognition of his rights to own the other six in stolen works of art. Return Mardirosyanom painting was subsequently sold at auction Bekuinom "Sotheby's" for 29.3 million dollars. In 2005 Bekuin filed by a lawyer in court to prevent the sale of remaining assets of the paintings, and in 2007, after investigation, Mardirosyan was forced to surrender to authorities. The elderly offender is suffering from dementia, however, according to the judge who headed the process, the court took into account this fact, but, nevertheless, ruled adequate seriousness of the crime, reports AP.
