Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson will install a monument in Moscow

Monument to the world-famous literary characters of Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson will be installed in Moscow.

"The Commission for Monumental Art has decided that Moscow should be a monument to Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. We have even identified the approximate location where the monument should be - Smolenskaya Embankment", - said chairman of the city commission for monumental art, architect Sergei Petrov.

"We believe that the monument must be placed on the territory adjacent to the Embassy of Great Britain" - he added.

As told Petrov, among architects in Moscow will be declared closed competition, which will determine the best sculptural embodiment of famous literary heroes.

This year marks 120 years since the birth of the literary hero Sherlock Holmes, he added. In addition, 2007 will mark the 120 anniversary of the date of the first story of Sherlock Holmes - A Study in Scarlet.

Sergei Petrov said that in future there are plans to install monuments in Moscow and other literary heroes - Little Prince and Don Quixote, and in St. Petersburg - D'Artagnan and three musketeers. Reportedly NEWS
