In the Lithuanian city of Kaunas trolleybus drivers refused to go on a route, because their vehicles have placed advertisements in support of a tolerant attitude towards gays and lesbians.

The director of the trolleybus company Algirdas Krivikas, employees protested against the advertisement, which contained the phrase with the word "gay can serve in the police" and "A lesbian can work at school." Now advertising has taken off.

Vladimir Simonko, president of the Lithuanian Gay League, which was the customer advertising on trolleys, said that the aim of the campaign was to initiate a debate in society. "It's sad. Because of this attitude homosexuals forced to emigrate from Lithuania", - he said.

Two thirds of the funding campaign for tolerance towards gays in Lithuania provides the EU, with the remaining funds allocated government. This year, Lithuania will open the head office of the European Institute for Gender Equality, reports Ananova.
