At Sotheby's put the record prices for contemporary art

On the eve of the famous auction was made a unique deal: Mark Rothko's painting "White Center" was sold for a record for contemporary art in the sum of 72.8 million dollars. The previous record - 27.1 million - belonged to one of the paintings of Willem de Kooning.

This year, such deals have been few. Thus, the surprise was the sale of paintings by Francis Bacon's "Doctrine of Innocent X, which has moved to a new owner for 52.7 million dollars. Held only a few minutes later sale of the "White Center" has prevented the painting of Bacon considered the record for the purchase price among the works of postwar art.

During the same session, trading at 2.5 million dollars was sold works by Andy Warhol's "Four Jackey", depicting Jacqueline Kennedy. Estimated cost of cloth was 4 million. On it informs Bloomberg.
