Renowned science fiction is terminally ill

British science fiction writer 59-year-old Terry Pratchett said that he suffers a rare form of Alzheimer's disease.

Terry Pratchett is an acknowledged master of comic fiction, the circulation of books where 55 million copies. In Russia, especially its popular series of novels about the Discworld. In 1998, Terry Pratchett was awarded an OBE for services to literature.

In a statement the writer states that "it would be unfair" to hide the news from readers, since he would still have to inform publishers of the contract.

The writer continues to work on a new book and trying to apply to the situation "philosophically and with cautious optimism."

Alzheimer's disease is a degenerative disease of the central nervous system, characterized by a progressive decline in intellect, memory disorders and behavioral changes, according to RIA Novosti.
