TB patient faces arrest American
Sheriff's Department U.S. state of Arizona has initiated an investigation against an American of Russian origin, of Robert Daniels, suspecting him of threatening tuberculosis infection. This was stated by the representative of the Department Detective Aaron Douglas.
According to RIA Novosti, Daniels, who suffered from drug-resistant TB, are currently recovered from the disease. Nevertheless, police suspect that before the quarantine, he deliberately failed to follow doctors' instructions, and thereby endanger the health of others. In 2006 he came to the U.S. for treatment and was arrested in a shopping center for what was there without a protective mask.
"Now we can establish whether Daniels is regularly violated the prescribed medical treatment, thereby endangering the infection of others," - said Douglas.
After being detained in a shopping center Daniels, on a court order in August 2006 he was quarantined in the jail department of the Medical Center in Phoenix (Arizona).
This decision provoked an outcry from human rights activists. The American Civil Liberties Union sued, claiming the hospital with Daniels treated like a criminal: he was in a locked room, was completely devoid of communication with the outside world, it has not allowed visitors, he was not even allowed to take a shower. In addition, the Chamber seized of its television, radio, telephone and computer.
In July of this year at the National Jewish Medical Center in Denver (Colorado), the patient removed the left lung. After surgery, a representative of the Centre William Olstetter said that Daniels no longer a threat to others.
Meanwhile, Sheriff Joe Arpayo expressed his firm intention to bring the investigation to the end, told RIA Novosti Douglas, while assuring that at this stage of the arrest of Daniels is not threatened.
According to local media on Sunday Daniels arrived from the USA to Moscow.
One of the lawyers Daniels Bert Rosenblatt told the agency that the young man went to Russia, fearing arrest and possible prosecution.
Daniel's legal representatives were not aware of his decision of going to Russia and received his notice of this after the fact.
"He was here much had to endure. He is very missed by his wife and son. In any case, his decision to leave is understandable," - he said.
In turn, sheriff's department claim that, if it is determined that Daniels is regularly violated the regime and thereby subjected the danger, the police can demand his extradition.
"If violations of the Daniels will be found, we will send the request for extradition," - says Douglas.
He noted that Daniels crossed the border legally and there is no evidence to suggest that he tries to escape prosecution. "As far as I know, in Russia at the Daniels home to his wife and son, and he has dual citizenship," - said a spokesman for the sheriff.
