In Russia, the final ban cigarette advertising

The Russian government approved a draft federal law that bans the advertising of tobacco and tobacco products. This measure should help Russia join the United Nations Framework Convention of the World Health Organization on tobacco control.

The Convention was adopted in May 2003. It was supported by 172 countries, including the European Union. Until recently, Russia was among the countries that have not ratified the convention.

In Russia, from diseases caused by smoking in 2006 claimed about 400,000 people. Nevertheless, the harmfulness of tobacco products has no effect on consumption. Also in 2006, Russia had made 413 billion cigarettes for consumption in 375 billion.
