City, who accuse the initiator of global warming are not the only culprits of climate change. This is also affected by the destruction of forests, the ways agriculture, heavy industry and power plants running on coal, according to a study published in the journal Environment and Urbanization.

According to popular opinion, 75-80% of greenhouse gases has originated in the expense of cities, but the significance of emissions of factories that are outside the cities, and destruction of forests is often underestimated, says David Satterthwaite (David Satterthwaite) of the International Institute for Environment and Development in London.

Taking into account the location of factories, coal-fired plants, heavy industry and the areas which destroyed the forest, the scientists say that only about 30-40% of greenhouse gas emissions can be recorded at the expense of city life.

In this case, scientists note that given the volume of emissions from production of goods for urban residents, this figure could increase to 60-70%, which is still far less greenhouse gas emissions, a standard attributed to the cities.

"It would be wrong to ascribe only the emissions of the city ... and not places where the generating plant emissions," - says the article.
