Familiar victim rapists get off shorter-term

In the UK came into effect new rules under which the offender may receive a shorter term if he had known before the victim.

Council on the procedure for sentencing (SGC) has developed recommendations for the courts of sexual crimes. The paper noted that the degree of culpability is less than if the offender immediately before the rape committed sexual acts with the victim with her consent. Although the report does not define what constitutes such acts.

"Rape is always traumatic and humiliating, although the circumstances under which it occurred, could affect the verdict. The fact that the offender is a friend, former partner or a partner of the victim, and that the violence was preceded by sexual activities between consenting should be considered when determining the minimum period sentence "- said in a statement SGC.

Moreover, as stated in the report of the Council, "there is no reason to believe that the average term of imprisonment decreased as a result of the recommendations of this manual for minimum terms," reported the Daily Telegraph.

"Regulations should not result in a decrease in the average period of imprisonment. In fact, it offers an increase in the period under aggravating circumstances", - explained the head of the prosecutor and member of the SGC, Ken Macdonald.
