Finland marked the anniversary of independence

Thousands of blue and white candles, echoing the colors of the national flag were lit on Thursday night in the windows of Finnish homes - for many years, Finns have thus expressed their involvement in the country's main holiday Suomi - Independence Day.

90-th anniversary of independence of Finland was magnificently celebrated in different cities. In Hämeenlinna held a military parade, which was attended by about 1200 people. In Helsinki, the same in the city center was a student procession with torches and a rally at the Senate Square. Celebrations have collected a lot of viewers, despite the inclement weather.

The culmination of the celebration is a reception at the presidential palace. This tradition started in 1919. At this time the guests at the reception Tarja Halonen were about 1900 people - cabinet members, MPs and European Parliament, diplomats, and the most prominent representatives of the Finnish culture, science, sports, business. Guests are expected to dinner, accompanied by dance and jazz music in the orchestra of the Guard.
