Non-alcoholic town retained its privileges

Non-alcoholic British city Bernvil retained its right to prohibition of liquor. Supermarket refused to grant a license to sell alcohol.

Bernvil was founded 100 years ago by George Cadbury. From the very beginning there was no pub, no alcoholic beverages in shops. But the retail chain Tesco has recently submitted an application for permission to trade in alcohol 3 hours per day. As a protest city residents gave Licensing Committee a petition with 1000 signatures. The Committee was forced to deny the company a license.

"This is a great victory. Well, that ordinary people can speak out against big companies who think they the strength to change the established rules," - said a local resident, Sam Stephenson, reports Ananova.
