From avian influenza affected cats

Health experts are concerned about the opening of the Indonesian scientists who discovered the H5N1 virus in cats living near poultry markets in some parts of the country. Scientists believe that if the avian influenza virus is able to adapt to mammals, it can spread easily among humans.

Consequently, scientists need to introduce mandatory testing of cats and dogs for the presence of H5N1 in countries where cases of infection with a particularly frequent. The H5N1 virus has killed at least 164 people worldwide since 2003, and more than 200 million birds have died or been destroyed to prevent the spread of the disease, reports AP.
