Governors of six U.S. states at once delivered an envelope with white powder

December 9 2008

In the U.S., the governors of six states have received by mail a letter in an envelope which was a suspicious white powder. Such envelopes were discovered on the eve of the administrations of governors of Alabama, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana and Rhode Island. Mindful of the tragedy of 2001, the situation took up the experts.

Laboratory tests substance contained in the envelopes sent by the governors of Alabama and Mississippi, showed that the white powder did not pose any threat. The results of examinations of letters sent by the heads of other states have not yet made public. Now police are trying to establish a sender of letters with powder. If they do not exclude that similar letters in the near future may enter the addresses of governors and other states, AP reported.

Recall that in 2001, immediately after the Sept. 11 attacks, envelopes with white powder containing anthrax spores were sent to several U.S. government agencies officials and members of Congress. Then infected with anthrax several employees mail, assorted envelopes, and office clerks, sorting out mail. Five people were killed.
