Pope Benedict XVI plans to visit Africa in 2009. This will be the pontiff's first pilgrimage to the Black Continent. " The unexpected announcement came on the last day of the World Synod of Roman Catholic priests, which was held at the Vatican for three weeks. "Next March I'm going to visit Cameroon," - declared the pontiff. "From there, if it be the will of God, I will go to Angola to celebrate 500 years of handling it in Christianity," - said Benedict XVI.

Preceded by Benedict XVI's papacy, John Paul II has repeatedly been in Africa, reports RBC.
