Catholics and Protestants celebrate Easter

Protestants and Catholics around the world celebrates Easter - the holiday of Christ's resurrection. In Rome, at St. Peter's, was held on the eve of Easter Vespers. Solemn liturgy celebrated Pope Benedict XVI with the participation of 30 cardinals.

In Moscow's Cathedral Catholic Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception of the Mother of God a solemn Mass led by a representative of the Holy See, Archbishop Antonio Mennini. Before the beginning of worship in the temple, according to tradition, made a fire of last year's branches, and consecrated on Palm Sunday. From that flame, which symbolizes the Risen Christ, the priest lit the great Paschal Candle - Paschalis, symbolizing the divine light.

The Orthodox Russian people will celebrate the Resurrection of Christ this year April 27 - on the Julian calendar, reports RSN.
