The Vatican told why left Polish archbishop

The Roman Catholic Church issued a statement on the scandal surrounding the Archbishop of Warsaw Stanislaw Wielgus, who unexpectedly resigned.

The head of the Vatican press service of his father Federico Lombardi said that Wielgus scandal that led to his resignation, triggered by "enemies of the Catholic Church to undermine its influence in Poland."

Lombardi does not exclude that the case of Monsignor Wielgus - this is not the first and probably not the last attack against the church minister, based on documents of special services of the former regime. At the same time, Lombardi called "adequate response" to the decision of Archbishop Wielgus's resignation and the acceptance of Pope Benedict XVI to accept it, reports " Echo of Moscow ".

Recall that Archbishop Wielgus was forced to resign after a few days ago the Polish media published documents showing its cooperation with the secret services of the socialist regime.
