Ukrainian Parliament does not need an adviser

July 24 2006

First Vice Speaker Adam Martyniuk says that the Council will decide the issue of appointing the Prime Minister. However, this will only happen if the Ukrainian president within 15 days will not make the candidacy of Viktor Yanukovych for the post of prime minister.

According to him, in this case, the Verkhovna Rada will refer to paragraph 6 of the transitional provisions of the Constitution, which, he says, gives parliament the right, in the absence of the Constitutional Court to decide questions relating to its competence.

He noted that the Verkhovna Rada is not seeking confrontation with the president.
