Bhutan for the first time in its history, the parliament chooses

Today, in the small Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan are the country's first nationwide parliamentary elections. However, the democratic changes occur here with a clear bias.

The country remains strong monarchist sentiment: candidates unanimously proclaim themselves monarchists and supporters of the young king.

The fact that in December 2006. former King of Bhutan Jigme Singye Wangchuck handed over power to his son, Prince Jigme Wangchuk Namgeylyu Caesar, and declared that in 2008 the Kingdom will be the first ever democratic parliamentary elections. In this case, before he left the old king announced a new draft constitution, which shall enter into force after the parliamentary elections and an end to absolute monarchy that existed for nearly 100 years, AP reported.
