Georgia in the past year has reduced the export of wine by almost half.

In 2007 exported 11.1 million bottles of wine, which is 8.4 million bottles (43%) than in 2006, reported " Interfax "the deputy chairman of the Department of vines and wine (" Samtrest) Ministry of Agriculture of Georgia, David Tkeshelashvili.

Georgian official said that this decline was due to the closure of the traditional Russian market, where in previous years, exported more than 80% of Georgian wines. "Despite the fact that in 2007 the geography of Georgian wine exports increased from 30 to 40 countries, to compensate for the loss of the Russian market, unfortunately, could not," - said D. Tkeshelashvili.

"Last year, more than half of total exports of Georgian wines had to Ukraine, where it was delivered 6.2 million bottles. In second place is Kazakhstan - 1.5 million bottles in the third - Latvia, 575 thousand bottles," - D. Tkeshelashvili said.
