Presidents gathered in Tehran

Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Tehran. Here he takes part in the Second Caspian Summit.

In the palace complex Sadabad, "in case" Hafez ", opened the second summit of Caspian littoral states. At the summit, met Russian President Vladimir Putin, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev and Turkmenistan President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

Until the Caspian summit is no tradition and no agreement on the frequency of meetings, their conduct is related primarily to the willingness of the parties to solve the problems of the Caspian Sea. So, agreeing to hold the next summit in Tehran was reached in 2002, at the first meeting in Ashgabat. It took 5 years and this time, according to assistant head of the Russian state Prikhodko, "the summit should go to a political law-making instrument."

Before the meeting Foreign Ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin explained that we are talking about the final Declaration, which "will establish a set of principles of conduct of the Caspian states and become a political landmark in the Caspian affairs to develop the Convention on the legal status of the sea." He expressed confidence that the meeting will give the opportunity to thoroughly exchanged views on cooperation in various fields in the Caspian Sea, including measures to maintain this peace, security and stability.
