The UN has a new Secretary General

Yesterday the new UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon was sworn.

During the ceremony, former Foreign Minister of South Korea promised to perform, observing complete loyalty, discretion and responsibility, the functions entrusted to the UN Secretary General. He vowed to act only in the interests of the United Nations and not to accept instructions from any Government or other government bodies, not belonging to the Organization, reports AP.

Officially, 62-year-old Ban Ki-moon will enter into a new position for a period of five years only on Jan. 1, 2007. It will be the eighth Secretary-General of the organization, which includes 192 countries.
