White and Kasparov diverged in the estimates of the opposition

April 5 2008

Participants started today in St. Petersburg conference "New Agenda for the democratic movement of Russia disagree on goals, objectives and methods of the opposition in Russia.

The leader of United Civil Front, Garry Kasparov with its inherent national-Bolshevik aplomb urged his colleagues and supporters not to focus on the economy, because of the democratic opposition will still have no leverage to influence her, but to concentrate on politics. Moreover, in terms of leadership FMG should not fight for victory at the elections, and for ensuring that elections took place.

In turn, the chairman of the ATP Nikita White contrary is confident that "we are not fighting with the regime we are fighting for power." In addition, according to him, ATP acts not for the orange revolution, but for democratic modernization, which can go power as a result of the economic crisis.

How successful in this case can be further dialogue - represented quite difficult. Not by accident, even one of the initiators of this conference, former SPS leader Boris Nemtsov declared that today's conference of democratic forces, of course, not unite, but it will be possible to take the platform and create a steering committee for the "real" Congress to consolidate the democratic parties and movements, which may take place fall.

Another reason for such neoptimistichnyh argument was a narrow composition of the potential of the democratic coalition. Of the registered political parties at the conference represented a "Union of Right Forces, represented by its leader, Nikita White. Yabloko party from participating in the conference refused to allow his supporters to attend the conference only as individuals, but threatened that they will be excluded if the results of the St. Petersburg meeting will be decided to create a supra-party structures.

Leader of the People's Democratic Union, Mikhail Kasyanov, also ignored the invitation of organizers, instead of sending a mission of observers. For unknown reasons, refused to participate, and a former State Duma deputy Vladimir Ryzhkov. There are no representatives of human rights wing - the chairman of the Moscow Helsinki Group, Lyudmila Alekseeva, and her supporters refuse to participate in some projects with Garry Kasparov, a human rights activist Lev Ponomarev, decided not to leave Moscow.

It is obvious that under these conditions, no question about creating a coalition of democratic forces to impossible.
