Today, the U.S. president met with two presidents of Russia

05/06 April 2008, U.S. President will visit Sochi, where he will hold talks with Russia's President Vladimir Putin and with the elected head of state, Dmitry Medvedev. The main topics of the dialogue related to NATO enlargement, as well as placing in the Eastern European missile shield the United States.

Bush said he expects to meet with Russian President high-level strategic cooperation on the deployment of missile defense (NMD) in Europe and the U.S. arms control. Thus, the U.S. intends to offer Russia use old military bases, based in the Soviet period, for inclusion in a unified air defense system, together with the new European bases.

Recall that the U.S. wants to build a radar station in the Czech Republic in the Brdy military training facility near Prague, as well as to place 10 interceptor missiles in Poland. As stated by the White House, these measures are necessary to protect Europe from possible missile attacks from so-called "rogue states" such as Iran and North Korea.

Against U.S. plans to deploy missile shield in Eastern Europe, Russia opposes, continued to insist on the need to revise the program of European security, proposed by Washington. Previously, the parties stated that they found some common ground, including the possibility of joint use of Gabala radar station in Azerbaijan.
