Iraq once again waiting for anarchy?

October 24 2005

In al-Anbar province in western Iraq, which is inhabited by mostly Sunnis, the new constitution was rejected: voted against over 95% of the population.

Last weekend, Iraqi authorities announced that the constitution by a wide margin of votes had been rejected as the province of Salaheddin. Voting took place there on October 15.

Meanwhile, according to the rules of the referendum, it means that if even one of the 18 provinces will act against the majority - at least 2 / 3 of the total number of voters, even despite the overall positive outcome of the vote across the country will need to revise the constitution and hold a second vote.

According to officials, the results of voting in the remaining four provinces: Arbil, Babel, Basra and Nineveh will be known this week - not before Tuesday's environment.

It is not excluded that the third province, which rejects the constitution, can become just Nineveh, which also reside mostly Sunnis, reports AFP.
