Foreign Ministry calls the strange resolution of the House of Representatives. In this document, the congressmen allege a violation of the rights of believers and religious freedom in Russia.

The essence of the resolution is reduced to the fact that non-traditional religions in Russia disadvantaged in terms of registration and the possibility to carry out their activities.

"In Russia - a country where modern civilization has grown and continues to develop in the Eastern Christian tradition (from 60 to 80% of the population consider themselves Orthodox), today there is unprecedented liberal by European standards legislation on religions" - say at the MFA.

Since its adoption in 1997 of a new Federal Law "On Freedom of Conscience and Religious Associations in the Russian authorities has been received virtually no complaints from religious organizations.

In DIP MFA noted that "American guardians of individual social groups that have declared themselves as religious organizations (eg, Scientology churches), some Pentecostal movements, associations of the Jehovah's Witnesses should be well aware that these associations may carry out its activities in Russia and without legal registration.

"The number of refusals to register religious communities is minimal and is due solely to technical problems. With this practice more failures encountered the Orthodox community, but they are in the resolution of the House of Representatives question why something does not go" - reads the resolution, Russian Foreign Ministry.

"However, there are a number of religious communities - such as Aum Shinrikyo, Islamic Jihad, the Muslim Brotherhood - which in Russia is really denied registration. We hope, however, that their rights of U.S. congressmen do not care" - stress in DIP MFA.

The commentary also states that "the originality of fancy American assessments of the legislative practices of foreign countries in such sensitive areas as freedom of conscience, has long been known."

"Actually the American model of legal regulation of this issue is very exotic, because based on the proclamation of a full formal equality of all religious communities and their practical elimination of the public sphere. Nowhere in the world except the United States, this legal model is not used," - says the document, According to Interfax .
