Russia has no plans to join NATO, it was declared by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov. "Russia is not a member of NATO and will soon join is not going" - he said at a news conference in Brussels after the summit Russia-NATO Council.

Ivanov noted that the council discussed various aspects of cooperation between Moscow and the alliance and adopted documents to improve the interoperability of forces. "Today, all the defense ministers of NATO and Russia approved politico-military guidance to improve the interoperability of NATO and Russian troops. This will further strengthen the foundation of our cooperation", - emphasized Minister of Defense.

However, earlier today, speaking about one of the forms of such cooperation, Ivanov, in a rather harsh terms rejected the possibility of cooperation between Russia and NATO. "I always say - do not want to harm" - said the head of the Russian Defense Ministry, commenting on reports that since 2006 the NATO antiterrorist operation "Active Endeavour" will be held in the Black Sea and with the participation of Russian sailors.

Russia's defense minister said: "We see no extension of the mandate of the Black Sea." In clarifying the question about plans to extend NATO's Operation Active Endeavour in the Black Sea, Ivanov said, quoted by Interfax: "Starting of course they can, but We will strictly monitor it. "

"Active Endeavour" - an operation to patrol the maritime area and inspection of ships for the prevention of terrorist acts. Currently, the operation involved two dozen NATO ships and two Russian vessels, reports RSN.
