In an experimental goat herd in Belarus, where the animals transplanted human gene, the first two were born kid.

"Kids feel good, no external manifestations of illness or abnormal development they do not. However, scientists still are not sure that these pups are transgenic," - said the head of the joint Belarusian-Russian project "BelRosTransgen" Livestock Research Institute of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS ) Belarus Alexander Budevich.

Also noted that on Tuesday at the Russian Research Institute of Animal Genetics, come to take pieces of skin from the ears of kids to make genetic examination and at the DNA level to check whether the transgenic goat born.

The probability of occurrence of transgenic animals is very small - out of 100 goats, which are surgically introduced a human gene, there may be only 2-3 transgenic offspring.

Experiment to implant 100 goats human genes began in autumn 2005 in the Research Institute of Livestock.

"The goats were taken from donor embryos, in which scientists transported a human gene, then the embryos were transplanted to recipient goats. Gene structure of human protein delivered to Belarus, Russian scientists," - noted in the academy.

They also explained that, if successful, the experiment goat's milk will be a qualitatively new tool in the treatment of cardiovascular disease and the best milk for the artificial feeding of infants.

These goats can produce up to 800 liters of milk per year. About 15 years ago became the first work carried out on transgenic animals in Belarus. It was then that attempts were made by using transgenic technology to improve the breeding of quality cattle. Tells Interfax
