The award has found the hero of "perestroika"

Ex-Soviet President Mikhail Gorbachev will receive Afinagorovskuyu Prize for human rights from the hands of former CIA director George Tenet. The award ceremony will be held Oct. 22 at New York's Hilton Hotel.

Gorbachev honored with the award for "outstanding contribution to ending the Cold War and the approval of religious freedom."

The award bears the name of the deceased in 1972, the Patriarch of Constantinople Athenagoras, who for 18 years served as the Archbishop of America and was a personal friend of Harry Truman.

Among the winners Afinagorovskoy awards, established 19 years ago were American presidents Jimmy Carter and George HW Bush, Mother Teresa and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
