In South Africa's Constitutional Court ruled the ban on gay marriage unconstitutional and appealed to Parliament to change legislation within the next year.

The South African Constitution, adopted in 1996, guarantees the protection of gays and lesbians from discrimination.

In a statement the judge said that the law definition of marriage is contrary to the Constitution and deprive gay couples of the status and benefits enjoyed by heterosexual couples.

Thus, the decision to change the definition of marriage to a "union between a man and a woman" with "union between two people."

If the amendments to the law still to be adopted, then South Africa will become the fifth country in the world where same-sex marriage will be granted the same rights as heterosexual, reported Vazhno.ru
