Black Sea ecosystem study after a 15-year hiatus

Scientists of the Southern Scientific Center, Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS YUNTS) and the Institute of Biology of Southern Seas, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine from June 16 to July 5 at the research vessel "Deneb" will go to a joint expedition for the Exploration of the Black Sea, the press service YUNTS.

Such joint expeditions were not conducted since 1993, that is, in fact, since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the report underlines. "Most studies will be devoted to studying the" invaders "- alien species of flora and fauna. Will be to clarify the mechanisms of their penetration and development in the Black and Azov Seas, and the impact on the marine ecosystem," - said the press service.

There will also be made more detailed oceanographic survey of plant and animal organisms that live in the water column and on the bottom, held marine observation and consideration of marine birds and mammals. With the help of modern equipment Oceanological scientists plan to conduct horizontal and vertical sensing of the marine strata in areas where upward climb more saline and colder deep water. Monitoring of these processes is extremely important, since changes in these areas, including those caused by man, such as an underwater pipeline, could affect a significant part of the Black Sea ecosystem "- the press-service.
