Scientists have developed a walking power generator

February 11 2008

Canadian researchers from Simon Fraser University in British Columbia with the participation of colleagues from the U.S. have developed a prototype device, produced by electricity when walking.

According to project leader, the unit weighs about 1.6 kg is attached to the knee from without undue effort on the part of man can generate an average of 5 watts of power. Previous attempts to use the energy expended in walking through the installation of the devices on foot or in a backpack turned out to be, according to developers, less effective than the new method.

New technology may eventually be used to supply the prosthetic or implanted medical devices, cell phones or satellite sensor coordinate system. A device may also find application in the military, soldiers do not have to carry extra elektrobatarei.
