Scientists from the U.S. supercomputer trained profession Genetics

December 10 2007

Not so long ago an international group of scientists announced the deciphering of the genetic set of rights - all of his DNA. Now that this information could be used in medicine, the whole huge amount of data must be carefully analyzed. This work and confidence in the new supercomputer, installed at the Institute for Genome Research TGen, Arizona, USA. The size of each data file is here up to 150 MB.

64-bit supercomputer is based on 48 dual-core Intel processors and is designed for computing in the research of human genes and their mutations that cause the development of various diseases, including cancer.

Enormous computing power needed to search for variations of the genes. In order to find and compare genetic samples, researchers need to create hundreds of copies of these files.

The system uses the program BLAST and ClustalW - to study the sequence of DNA nucleotides and amino acids in proteins, as well as NAMD - to study the molecular dynamics in biological systems. This writes Cnews.
