The Earth changes its shape

September 3 2006

A group of scientists came to a unique discovery in the field of rebalancing the Earth 800 million years ago. For example, researchers Adam Maloof of Princeton University and Galen Halverson of Paul Sabatier University, argue that this time the Earth has changed its position geographic poles.

About moving the magnetic poles is known to many, however, and the axis of rotation of the planet may vary. Some evidence (but not yet one hundred percent proof) that 800 million years ago, has shifted the geographical poles of the Earth, geologists have found by studying magnetic minerals in ancient sedimentary rocks of the Norwegian archipelago.

They found that the north magnetic pole is then shifted right by 50 degrees for 20 million years. And because the tectonic plates are moving much more slowly, given the shift of the surface (with respect to depth, the nucleus, where a magnetic field), the authors explain the rebalancing of the world - a relatively rapid change in the axis of rotation.

Such a process can begin after the onset of significant mass imbalance in the mantle. For example, because of rising super-away from the equator. Incidentally, a similar event apparently occurred sometime on Mars because of the giant volcano, Olympus and other large volcanoes in Tharsis plateau.

Hypothesis is the same two scientists on the geographical displacement of the Earth's poles, according to them, find some evidence not only in deposits of magnetic minerals, worked out by generations of microbes, but in other tracks. This is a geological "record" sea-level changes and chemical processes left in the same Norwegian sediment transfer podrobnosti .
