About the "cartoon scandal" will remove the film

February 11 2007

The famous Danish film director Erik Clausen announced his intention to remove the first feature film, raised the issue of the publication in the Western press of cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed, which in 2005-2006 brought a sequence of scandals and conflicts.

"In the film, this crisis is I want to show in terms of human factors, with emphasis on inter-cultural relations", - said Clausen, and added that in the film will also reflect the political turmoil that followed the scandal with the cartoons. "I would also raise the question of free speech and the boundaries of freedom of expression", - said 64-year-old director.

The cast has not yet been determined. Himself director considers publication of the cartoons as "faux pas". "I am currently writing the script and ponder the future movie about cartoon crisis", - said in an interview Clausen portal

Recall that the "cartoon scandal" broke out in September 2005 when the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten commissioned and published a series of cartoons, including 12 paintings, where he was captured a man in a turban, which the newspaper dubbed the "prophet." At one of the drawings turban was made in the form of a bomb with a fuse set on fire, on the other - "prophet" acted as a nomad with a dagger in a crowd of their wives.

In the countries of Islam, these caricatures deemed blasphemous. They were later reprinted by several European newspapers, spoke in defense of freedom of speech and freedom of expression that made relations between the Muslims (especially in those countries where strong fundamentalists) and the West more tense. In several States of Islam have been mass demonstrations in which crowds of fanatics destroyed Western embassies and consulates.
