Chinese archaeologists accidentally discovered a shipwreck

April 11 2007

Archaeologists from the Chinese intend to raise from the bottom of the sea vessel, which sank about 800 years ago.

Found it was quite by accident in 1987 during a joint expedition of Chinese and British experts, who sought the remains of a completely different vehicle.

Found at relatively shallow depths, three-masted ship has been assigned the name "Nanhai-1". Archaeologists have concluded that his board were more than 60 thousand pieces of porcelain and bronze, and gold. The surface has been raised only a small part of rarities dating from the period of Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279 years)..

To study the history of maritime trade and shipping in China, a project to raise the vessel is of great importance. It has also become a prime exhibit of the museum's new "Maritime Silk Road", which is created in the nearby city of Yangjiang. NTV reports.
